The No-Longer-Pregnant Physicist

Please welcome our son, Soren.

IMG_0346

He was born Tuesday night, healthy and alert, and we are all over the moon and crazy in love.Β  More soon, but I wanted to thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes over the past few weeks/months/years.Β  It has meant so much to have your support.

Do I have to change the name of my blog now? πŸ™‚

Thank you so much! I am inclined to agree, although I may be biased. πŸ™‚ I hope everything is continuing to go well for your newly expanded family too! We gave Soren his first bath at home yesterday using your towel, and while he didn’t appreciate the bath, he sure looked adorable in the towel! πŸ™‚

Thank you! Oh, me too, me too… when he finally came out healthy and they put him in my arms, I couldn’t stop sobbing (the picture above is probably an hour or two later!). What a relief, and what an amazing experience all around.

Aw, thank you! I should post another picture later that shows his eyes better — they are so big! And they were wide open for almost the first full day after he was born! Our pediatrician said there are two types of newborns: some are sleepy the whole first day, and some just can’t get enough of the world. Soren was definitely the second sort — he finally slept on the second day, and has been a pretty good sleeper since then. πŸ™‚

Thank you! I think it all went as well as it possibly could have. There’s no such thing as an easy labor and delivery (as you know!) but I think I had just about the easiest possible experience. We are very happy, and we love that you all are so happy for us!

Thanks! Soren is Scandinavian. πŸ™‚ He comes by it honestly — my husband’s family is Norwegian, so we went with Scandinavian first and middle names (he shares his middle name with his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather), and gave him my last name (which I did not change when I got married).

and gave him my last name (which I did not change when I got married).

Awww! That’s awesome! Can we clone your husband so each one of us can marry a clone? I kept my name but my boys have my husband’s last name; there is no way in hell he would have had it any other way. Even though my last name is way more awesome (so say I). I find it sad that I have no name connection to my boys when I am the one who did the gestation, labor, delivery, breastfeeding, etc. :((
But I like my name and would never change it.
Kudos to your DH for being a progressive young man and to you for snatching him! πŸ™‚
